An analytical survey of the major events from 1648 to the present. Emphasis is placed upon the events as they reveal the intimate ties between the histories of Great Britain, France, Germany, Russia and the United States. (3 lecture)

Examines the major issues in the nation's development from the beginning of colonization through the end of the Civil War, with an emphasis on the role of slavery and contact with Native Americans. (3 lecture)
