Students will analyze the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of texts in order to understand what makes these characteristics supportive and challenging for children. This understanding helps children climb the ladder of text difficulty with success. (3 lecture)

Students will study the attention seeking, power seeking, revenge seeking, and avoidance of failure behaviors. Manifestations of these behaviors will be studied, as well as preventions and interventions. Issues of self-esteem and belonging will be emphasized in this class that helps students learn to build communities in their classrooms. (3 lecture)

Focuses on major models of classroom management and the characteristics of positive classroom environments. Emphasizes prevention of classroom disruptions through understanding student behaviors. Basic physiological, emotional and cognitive needs of students and teachers are studied. Philosophical approaches to teaching are developed through coursework and reflective journal writing. Computer applications in the classroom are emphasized. (3 lecture)
