Workforce, Technical and Computer Information Science Division

The Workforce, Technical and Computer Information Science (WTCIS) Division offers a wide variety of courses and programs. Our Short-Term programs are between 6 and 15 weeks in duration and offer exciting new career opportunities. They are condensed curriculum certifications designed to prepare you for employment in a particular profession and return you to the workforce promptly.

The Technical and IT programs are designed to prepare you for in-demand careers in the region. Whether you are already employed and seeking a promotion by obtaining an advanced degree or looking to obtain a new skill, we offer a broad array of options. Some of these programs include but are not limited to; welding, industrial maintenance, electricity and instrumentation, computer information technology and computer science.

The WTCIS Division offers Learn and Earn opportunities for many of our programs, which include, but are not limited to Computer Information Technology, Computer Science, and Chemical & Polymer Operator Technology. These learn and earn programs create pathways to gain work experience while completing a degree through a state-funded grant, sponsored by the West Virginia Community and Technical College System, and part of the Workforce Development Initiative Program. The learn and earn is an opportunity for WVUP to create partnerships between industry and community and technical colleges by allowing students to receive hands-on learning experience, and employers to train potential future employees. Some examples of current companies we are working with are Hino, Chemours, Ntiva, iTech, and much more.

The Workforce and Economic Development (WED) department, housed within the WTCIS division, is committed to supporting the college's mission of providing "accessible, life changing educational opportunities in a safe and supportive environment." WED's focus is on improving personal, professional, technical, economic, and developmental training needs of our students as individuals as well as for our local businesses and industries. We provide high quality, cost effective programs and consulting services which result in improved performance and outcomes for the participating individuals and corporations.

With that being said, WVU Parkersburg prides itself in offering you programs that align with the workplace. The selection of skills and knowledge we provide you are guided by industry-recognized assessments and certifications. When you leave one of our programs, you receive a college degree and additional certifications that are recognized nationwide by employers in your field of study, such as CISCO, NCCER, ADDA, NATE, MCP, A+ and OSHA cards. Additionally, our programs and assessments are designed to prepare you for other national certifications, such as NABCEP, BPI, CCNA and CCNP.
