Elementary Education, B.A.
The Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education prepares students for teaching in the elementary classroom in grades kindergarten to sixth grade. Completion of the program of study provides eligibility to apply for certification in the state of West Virginia. Please note: COLL 101 ORIENTATION TO COLLEGE is a university requirement that does not count toward graduation requirements.

Admission to Program
- Completion of 45 hours
- Minimum GPA 3.0 (Conditional with special requirements)
- No grade below a C
- Passage of CORE Praxis I Test
- 50 hours Service Learning
- Completion of ENGL 101 ~COMPOSITION 1, ENGL 102 ~COMPOSITION 2, COMM 111 ~FUND OF PUBLIC SPEAKING, PSYC 241 ~INTRO TO HUMAN DEVELOPMENT, and MATH 121 ~INTRO TO MATHEMATICS or higher
- Completion of EDUC 100, EDUC 200, EDUC 201, and EDUC 300.
- Dispositional Assessment
Graduation Requirements
A grade of “C” or better required in each course in the program of study.
Applications to Program and Residency due March 1st and October 1st.
Provisional Admission to the Education Program for 2.9 GPA
Provisional Admission allows students to enroll in the Elementary Education Program under the following conditions: students must have passed all 3 subtests of the CORE Praxis test and have an overall 2.9 GPA in professional education courses and all courses on the Academic Map. If a student desires to seek Provisional Admission, the student will notify the Education Certification Analyst in the Professional Studies Division to request consideration.
