Arts & Sciences Division

Start here, finish there. We offer flexible paths for you to earn your associate and bachelor’s degree. These programs will prepare you to enter a career after graduation or provide the academic foundation to continue your graduate or professional studies. This division includes our associate degrees in art and science, as well as the Board of Governors Associate of Applied Science and the Regents Bachelor of Arts.

Associate of Arts and Associate of Science

The AA and AS degrees are valuable transfer degrees that offer the General Education requirements expected by most four-year institutions.

The Associate of Arts degree is designed for transfer to other colleges and universities. Students who wish to earn a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree at any other institution can complete their first two years at WVU Parkersburg. This associate degree program is the foundation to the following majors: art, English, history, mathematics, music, philosophy, political science, psychology, religion, social work, sociology, communications and theatre.

The Associate of Science Degree is also designed for transfer to other colleges and universities and has a greater number of science electives compared with the AA. Focus areas are typically in the following fields: biology, chemistry, geology, physics, engineering or pre-professional study which can lead to study in dentistry, medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, veterinarian science or other health sciences.  Several electives are embedded into the AS curriculum to provide the flexibility to tailor your degree to fit your intended transfer program.  For several of these degrees (for example, pharmacy, medical school, etc.) you could meet all of the pre-requisite requirements with our courses and obtain a bachelor’s degree here at WVUP that would qualify you for entrance directly into the program.

Board of Governors and Regents Bachelor of Arts

What you already know may be worth college credit. Adults continually learn new skills while on the job through travel, reading, volunteering and special interests. The Board of Governors Associate of Applied Science is a flexible degree designed for busy adults who want to earn a college degree. It can save countless hours and dollars in your quest to achieve your educational goals by awarding college credit for work and life experiences. The Board of Governors Associate of Applied Science degree is one of several pathways into our Regents Bachelor of Arts degree.  The Regents Bachelor of Arts (RBA) is an innovative degree program designed for adult students. The program builds on any of our associate degrees and provides considerable flexibility in how, when and where the course requirements are met. RBA students do not have a time limit for completing the degree requirements.
